If you own an Audi A4 and are looking for excellent repair expertise, look no further than German Auto Service. The Audi A4 is a high-performance car that belongs to the highly sought-after luxury car series. Like all other cars, it might develop problems over time. Here are a few of them.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION

One of the most reported issues with the Audi A4 is the rate of high oil consumption, especially in models from around 2011. Reported by owners, the level of oil runs dry so fast and, therefore, has to be topped up with oil way more often than not. This issue typically arises after the vehicle has traveled over roughly 64,000 miles and may cause damage to the engine if it is not recognized on time.

This problem most usually relates to worn-out piston rings or a weak PCV valve, which allows oil to outgas and burn. The solution is, in most cases, new replacements on the parts that went bad, which usually is quite expensive but less costly than buying a new engine.

CARBON BUILD-UP

Carbon build-up is still widespread with this model of the Audi A4's direct injection engines, especially with the 2006-2017 model year. Build-up occurs at the intake valves, which might lead to the loss of power, loss in fuel economy, and rough idling. It can result in a check engine light turning on and other critical performance problems.

The typical solution is the removal of the intake manifold and a good cleaning—walnut blasting, in some cases—so as to remove the carbon deposits from the head. The best remedy is care and maintenance, including the use of good fuel.

TENSIONER OF TIMING CHAIN FAILURE

The timing chain tensioner is one of the main parts that ensure proper synchronization of the engine's inner components. A bad one goes through the characteristic signs and symptoms of a rattling sound during engine start-up but still may lead to serious damage to the engine if not handled in time. This seems to be a more frequent issue in Audi A4s that have higher mileage. The best remedy is changing the timing chain tensioner when the symptoms first appear so as to prevent future expensive repairs.

HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE

A 2006-2012 model year Audi A4 has a high amount of pressure due to failure of the fuel pump. Symptoms present usually include stalling, sputtering, and poor fuel economy. The more serious cases involve a vehicle that will not start at all. The primary causes include overheating or gas contamination of the fuel pump. The best solution would be the replacement of the defective pump, for which regular maintenance can help prevent such a problem.

SUSPENSION PROBLEMS

Another common issue that comes with the Audi A4 is the suspension, mainly for models produced between 2014 and 2019. When the suspension parts, especially the control arm bushings and struts, wear out or become defective, they tend to cause a bumpy ride and, in some cases, loud noise inside the wheel and misalignment of the steering. If you feel these symptoms, it's very important to inspect the suspension and replace the damaged parts.
